Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit this website, join our email list or order a book, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We keep it simple: we collect only what we need, we never sell your information, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
1. Who we are
This website and the store on it are run by Ugly Professor Publishing, a trade name of SV&A USA LLC, based in Howell, Michigan, United States ("we", "us"). We decide how your personal information is used and are responsible for it.

2. What we collect

| You browse the site | If you accept analytics cookies: pages viewed, buttons clicked (for example "Pre-order"), approximate location (country or city), device and browser type. Our web host also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security. |
A gift message may include someone else's name. We use it only to print it in the book you ordered.
3. Why we use it
- To fulfil your order: take payment, print and ship your book, print your gift message, send your receipt, and deal with any questions or refunds. (Legal basis in the UK and EU: performing our contract with you.)
- To send you the emails you asked for: launch-day news, the launch-week Kindle offer, and occasional news about our books and courses. (Basis: your consent, or for customers, our legitimate interest in telling you about similar products, which you can refuse at checkout and in every email.)
- To understand and improve the website: only if you accept analytics cookies. (Basis: your consent.)
- To keep records and follow the law: for example tax and accounting records. (Basis: legal obligation.)
- To keep the site secure: spotting and preventing abuse or fraud. (Basis: legitimate interests.)
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decisions that affect you.
4. Who we share it with
We share only what each service needs to do its job for us:

We may also share information if the law requires it, or with professional advisers such as our accountant.
5. Where your information is stored
We are based in the United States, and most of the services above store data in the United States. If you live in the UK, the EU or elsewhere, your information will be transferred there. These providers protect such transfers with recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
6. How long we keep it
- Order records: up to 7 years, for tax and accounting.
- Email list: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address on a "do not email" list, so we don't contact you again by mistake.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to help you, then deleted within 2 years.
7. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it or delete it;
- unsubscribe from our emails at any time, using the link at the bottom of every email;
- withdraw your consent to analytics cookies at any time (see below).
If you live in the UK or the EU, you also have the right to restrict or object to how we use your information and to receive it in a portable format. You can complain to your data protection authority, for example the ICO in the UK or the CNIL in France, but we'd appreciate the chance to sort things out first.

8. Cookies
We use analytics cookies (from Google Analytics) only if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. To change your mind, clear this site's cookies in your browser and you'll be asked again on your next visit.
When you check out, you're taken to Stripe's secure payment page, which uses its own cookies to process your payment and prevent fraud. Our signup forms are hosted by Podia, which may also set cookies needed for the form to work.
9. Children
This website isn't aimed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we'll delete them.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll tell people on our email list.
